Report: 3-time Pro Bowl defensive end Melvin Ingram visits Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins had the fourth-best scoring defense in the league last season. A defensive upgrade may be coming, as edge rusher Melvin Ingram will reportedly pay a visit to the team Monday.

“Edge defender Melvin Ingram is in for a free agent visit Monday, an NFL source tells the Miami Herald,” wrote Adam Beasley.

Ingram is a three-time Pro Bowl defensive end who last played for the Los Angeles Chargers. While he can give the Dolphins a boost on the defensive end, there are various hurdles to the possible free agent signing.

For one, the 32-year-old missed nine games during the 2020 NFL season due to a knee injury, and there is no clear news on whether he needed to undergo surgery.

Furthermore, Miami could have little cap room to pay the veteran. Ingram also did a free agent visit with the Kansas City Chiefs two months ago.

Landing Ingram would strengthen the Dolphins’ pass-rushing unit, which already includes promising young players in Andrew Van Ginkel and Jaelan Phillips.
