Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson reportedly has the Miami Dolphins among his top two destinations that he would like to be dealt to.
Both of Watson’s top teams are in the AFC East, as the New York Jets were listed as his top choice, according to the Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero.
“Quarterback Deshaun Watson, unhappy with his situation with the Houston Texans, apparently has a ranking for which new team he’d like to play,” Salguero wrote.
“But he prefers to play for the New York Jets.
“And, second, he’d like to play for the Miami Dolphins.
“In that order.
“Watson this week told people the Jets are his top preference among the teams he’d like to be traded to because they hired Robert Saleh to be their coach and Watson values Saleh so much he wanted the Texans to interview him for their vacant head coach job.
“Watson confirmed reports, circulated for several weeks in national media, he’d also welcome playing for the Dolphins but said that is his second choice at this time.”
The Dolphins already have quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, but there is no question that Watson would be an upgrade.
Both Miami and New York can offer enticing trade packages for Watson, but the Jets have more draft picks in the first round over the next two seasons.
In addition, the Jets could trade quarterback Sam Darnold or the No. 2 overall pick to give the Texans a chance to figure out a plan at quarterback after Watson.
Miami has seemed content with having Tagovailoa as the starter next year, but the Dolphins would be foolish not to pursue a top talent like Watson, especially since he is interested.
