On Monday, the Miami Dolphins signed prized rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to a four-year, $30.2 million contract.

The next day, the University of Alabama product took to Instagram to post an incredible message in which he vowed that he will be committing some of his newfound fortune to the “communities that have raised me.”

It is likely that Tagovailoa would have started up a charity of some kind upon signing his rookie deal under any circumstance, but the current economic recession as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the needs of those who are most at risk in communities all over the country.

Entering the NFL draft, Tagovailoa was widely known as a high-character young man. Surely, most franchises in the league would be happy to have him be the new face of their respective teams.

With that being said, there is no doubt that his injury history likely scared several teams off. That was not the case with the Dolphins, who selected Tagovailoa with the No. 5 overall pick.

Now, with the new quarterback’s contract in the books, it will be fascinating to see what his rookie season ends up looking like.

It is possible that the Dolphins ultimately choose to redshirt the rookie and give Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh Rosen the chance to compete for the starting job.

However, if Tagovailoa’s supreme talent is too great to ignore, it is also possible that the young gunslinger ends up behind center before the end of the 2020 season.
