Miami Dolpins Rumors: DeVante Parker Could Miss Season Opener vs. Washington Redskins

Even though the Miami Dolphins drafted wide receiver DeVante Parker in the first round of the NFL Draft, it appears they’ll have to be patient in getting him back out on the field, since he could miss the team’s regular season opener on September 13.

Parker first underwent foot surgery last year after breaking the fifth metatarsal of his left foot just prior to the start of his final year at Louisville. He had a follow up procedure on June 5, roughly one month after being selected by the Dolphins. In the latter surgery, Parker had a screw replaced from the first surgery.

While the original plan was to have Parker ready for the final two preseason matchups, that timetable appears to be on hold. Continued delays could put the rookie’s status for the September 13 opening game against the Washington Redskins in doubt.

After Miami’s Friday night scrimmage, Parker was quoted in the Palm Beach Post as saying, “I’m not sure yet. I’m just taking it one day at a time. Whatever happens, happens.” He remains anxious to return to the field, though, saying, “It’s been tough just watching my teammates going out there and balling. I’m just waiting for the opportunity to be able to go out there and play again.”

Due to the rehabilitation of the foot, Parker hasn’t been able to participate in the Dolphin training camp, earning him a spot on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list. He still isn’t able to run at full speed, but showed enough during the rookie mini-camp for Miami not to rush the situation.
